Household Tips for Green Living: It’s Easy

Whether you want to reduce your child’s exposure to pesticides and other toxins or care for your child with the best choices in natural personal products, don’t be daunted by the task. A little time at your local bookstore or city library is a great place to start creating a beautiful and healthy home environment. It’s as easy as one, two, three, four…

1) Provide your family with natural and wholesome food choices by purchasing local and organically grown foods when you can. For non-organic produce, wash and/or peel to reduce your exposure to added toxins.

2) Safeguard your children from irritating fabric products and keep your wallet closed by hosting a kids’ clothing swap. Kid’s clothing and item swaps help reduce the amount of waste filling our landfills while socially introducing your child to an appreciation of the ‘new to you.’ Another choice is to resell your kids’ clothes at one of the big swap sales, such as just between friends or pass it on sales, or take them to a consignment store in your area.

3) From kitchen cleaning products, to children’s toys and even personal care products, toxic materials seem to have leached their way into our daily lives. Be savvy and start reading the labels of your favorite products. It’s not too late to purchase a Chinook Book at your local natural grocery store to start saving on these healthier alternatives)

4) Most of today’s products come in packaging that is recyclable. With a little extra color from the art supply bag, paper bags and newspapers make wonderful book covers and wrapping paper. Before throwing anything away, brainstorm with your child if it can be reused.
