New mamas: Exercise and the New You!
Now that you’ve had your baby, getting back into fighting shape may seem a bit overwhelming. The right frame of mind is key to easing back into an exercise program—here are a few ideas to help get you going:
1 First things first, get yourself some new, flattering workout clothes. They don’t need to be fancy or expensive, just cute and comfy, so you’ll actually want to wear them!
2 Step into some new running shoes. Your feet grow while you are pregnant and don’t automatically go back to your pre-pregnancy shoe size. Might as well pick up some new socks while you’re at it.
3 Protect the family jewels with a good nursing sports bra. Your chest will have grown a few sizes, and you’ll likely notice a big difference in how they feel when you’re
working out. You want a nursing-specific one – there’s nothing less comfortable than trying to lift up a tight sports bra when the need to nurse strikes the fancy of your little one. Especially when you’re outside, you’ll need the comfort and flexibility to nurse on the go.
4 Stash the mat. You may be tempted to wear your maternity jeans around town as they are “comfortable,” (and they are! Why can’t regular jeans have that soft elastic waistband?) but they don’t do much for your self-esteem. Shop for some new things in your current size; getting a few key pieces that you feel GOOD in will lift your spirits.
Prior to starting any exercise program, you want to get your doctor’s approval.
